April 4, 2019 Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve
The rains this year, in the Southwest, have made for a Super Bloom in both California and Arizona. We now travel in a Mercedes Sprinter RV RoadTrek Van, it is 22 feet long and has all of the amenities to be self contained. I want to focus on the next several posts on Southern California. This was a weeklong trip with 800 photos. We started just north of I-8 in Anza Borega State Park, but the flowers had already peaked and were somewhat sparse. Next we back tracked a bit to Joshua Tree National Park and also went through it on the way home (this will be the third post). The Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve is near Lancaster, CA and is actually a series of low hills. This is actually the third time that we have been here and it was by far the most poppies than we had ever seen before. We did not actually get into the preserve because of the long waits for parking and hiking necessary. The roads and fields on the outside of the Preserve had just as many poppies anyway, with lots of places to park on the shoulders of the road. Lots of cars and people! In most cases, there were poppies in fields as far as you can see just like the photos below. So I am not tricking you by a low composition to make it look like there are more poppies that there are!

Lots more photos can be seen by going to the blog posting.
The photos below show the actual hills in the Preserve. You can see the people hiking on the paths.

The rest of the photos are from the fields below and around the Preserve.

Charles, these are absolutely incredible! Thank you for sharing the wonderful abundance of nature.
Loove most the fourth from the last pic (poppy closeup with contrasting blues). Second favorite would be the one fourth from the top – fence post off-center in field of poppies. Lots of wonderful color in all. Must have been a great trip.
That must have been a photographer’s dream. Beauty beyond measure. Wonderful pictures as always.
WOW! That sure is a super bloom! Lovely.
