Day 3 – Oia
Santorini, Oia
Monday, October 27, 2014
We stayed overnight right across from the airport in Athens as we did not make a connection in London on the previous day. We flew out to Santorini on Monday morning and found Aspa Villas right on the caldera side of the island in Oia. Oia is right along the cliffs of the dormant volcano. The volcano last erupted very violently in about 1450 BC and destroyed the Minoan civilization. Most of the island sank into the caldera. The villas and houses are almost on top of each other as you can see in the photos. Most of them are painted white which has the overall effect of almost blinding you in the sunlight. We walked the whole length of the pedestrian walk with all of the shops (Joann did not buy anything. Yet!) and many photo stops. Finally at the end of the walk was one remaining windmill. Oia is famous for the sunsets but did not pan out tonight.
