From Mammoth Hot Springs, I travel to what is simply referred to as Canyon. This is on the east side of Yellowstone and the main feature is a deep canyon with an upper and lower falls of the Yellowstone River. There are many view points to get closer views of the canyon and the falls.
I first backtracked down the west side road on the way to Norris Basin.

Norris Basin has two major loops neither of which I ventured down because of the long hikes with little pay offs. So these are my token photos. There is Turquoise Pool and Emerald Pool.

This is the Upper Falls. The green streak comes from cold water at a spot deep in the river.

Next are several views right on top of Lower Falls.

One of the main viewing spots is called Artist Point and gives the long view down the canyon to Lower Falls.

Looking in the opposite direction the canyon walls have all kinds of colored rocks and sand.

After all the rain that I had the last two days, this day could not have been more perfect with blue sky and puffy clouds.

If you get to the view point by 9:45 AM then you will get a rainbow effect. These photos are from 2011.

There are other view points along the top of the canyon to see the walls of the canyon and the river far below.

The next morning, I left Canyon and headed north over the Dunraven Pass toward Tower Falls.

I continued toward the northeast exit traversing the Lamar River Valley.

The Lamar Valley is famous for large herds of Bison. The calves are a nice golden brown.

Some of the bison decided to cross the road and I happened to be in the lead car so I got photos out of all of the windows.

In the next photos you can get an impression of the large herds of bison in the Lamar Valley.

And finally a red fox showed up right along the road and I photographed him right out of the window.

This concludes the Yellowstone trip and it was a wonderful few days.
