Spring Desert Flowers in Arizona

March 2015

We had some well timed rains in December and January which have brought out the wild flowers this spring.  I especially liked to find masses of Mexican Poppies that cover the hillsides.  The best place that this happens is east of Globe at Peridot Mesa on the Apache Indian Reservation (you need a $10 permit to stop there).  Another place we found poppies in abundance was at Picchio Peak south of Casa Grande.  Various other isolated flowers were found in the desert on our 4 wheel drive trips.  Finally a visit to the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden is really popular at this time of year.
