Photographic Journey around Erie, PA and Brockport, NY

September 24-October 8

From the last post I was in North Dakota, and from there heading east, I visited with multiple friends in SD, MN, IA, IL (Chicago area). Then as I traveled further east I met up with photographers friends, Gary and Barbara, in Erie, PA. They took me to their favorite photographic sites.

The RV park was right next to the Erie Harbor so the first shots are from there.

This is called the “Lighthouse on Lake Erie”, and is a private residence with a lighthouse theme but is not historical or functional except for the viewing deck.

This is the Barcelona Lighthouse, located on Lake Erie in the town of Westfield, NY.

The first mural features various wildlife and their interactions located in Maryville, NY. The bottom image is on the side of a brick building in Westfield and symbolizes generations of labor in the agricultural industry.

These images are from the Village Casino. I really liked the various colored paddles on the ceiling and tried to capture a unique perspective. The vintage style Texaco gas station in Jamestown, NY is a historical recreation and operates as a gift shop.

The turkey vultures were near an inlet off Lake Erie.

Other scenes along the creeks.

Sunset at Lake Erie.

After three weeks on the road, I finally made it to my brother, Ron’s house in Brockport, NY. We visited a number of places in the area including a trip to Naples in the Finger Lake region to look for some fall color. Below are a couple segments of the Avon Five Arch Railroad Bridge constructed in 1856-57.

Above and below are some scenes along Honeoye Lake. This is also a grape growing region.

Next is a railroad depot in Hammondsport, NY and then two victorian houses which I have turned into creative photos for the camera club competitions.

As I travel the countryside, I am always on the lookout for red barns and even this old granary elevator in Avon, NY.

Near Holly, NY is a waterfall that has been there my whole life and I never knew that it existed. I think it is supplied by water from the Erie Canal which is nearby.

Sunset along the Erie Canal in Brockport, NY.

The Brockport Loop Pedestrian Bridge over the Erie Canal is part of the bicentennial celebration of the Erie Canal.

Instagram post gives a aerial view of the S curve bridge.

I was lucky enough to photograph a canal boat passing under the bridge.

These are fall scenes in Brockport, NY and I liked the yellow leaves on the sidewalk. The Erie Canal bridges in Brockport make good compositions.
